About

The community lies at the heart of Reyes's creative process. She actively involves the community in her work, often conducting workshops and collaborative projects to ensure that art becomes an inclusive and participatory experience in the stories she tells. Through these endeavors, Joy Reyes helps build a sense of belonging, unity, and shared purpose, making art a powerful tool for forging bonds and shared identity.

Latina-Jewish multidisciplinary artist, Joy Reyes, utilizes the transformative power of art to bridge the gaps between cultures, highlighting social issues and fostering a sense of community. With a keen eye for detail and a deep appreciation for the beauty of diversity, she specializes in creating evocative mixed-media portrait paintings that are intended to resonate with viewers on a personal level. Drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of global cultures, including that of her own, her work is a celebration of the myriad stories, traditions, and histories that make up our world. Each portrait tells a unique narrative, inviting the audience to explore the universal thread that connects us all. With a masterful command of color texture and form, Reyes captures the essence of different cultures effectively bringing a piece of the world to her viewer's heart and mind. Reyes also specializes in creating other quality art pieces by using her carpentry skills to make timeless furniture, as well as crafting unique glass vases.

Reyes is a self-taught artist who has had her work exhibited all over Texas including many fine art galleries such as Daisha Board Gallery, 400 Houston St Gallery, and multiple Dallas community art venues such as the Latino and Oak Cliff cultural centers. She also had her most recent solo show in early 2023 at Daisha Board Gallery where she is currently represented, and in 2022 she received the Peoples Choice Award at the Fort Worth Biennial juried by Lilia Kudelia at the Fort Worth Community Art Center where she recently had her Three Women Show.
